 With the rapid advances in technology, distant lands have arrived on our doorstep. To successfully compete in the current job market, it is all the more essential to have the ability to speak a second language. The United States continues to play a dominant role in the global economy and there are consequently churches, companies, governments and social organizations from all parts of the world that require a native English speaker with foreign language skills. Students of language are thus better equipped able to handle their needs and be sensitive to the values of their culture.
