The Houghton College String Quartet is comprised of four accomplished string students who are chosen based on both their musical abilities and their commitment to the integration of performance and worship. The quartet performs both standard quartet literature as well as sacred arrangements and even has experimented with creating their own arrangements and improvisations based on hymns and other worship music. The individuals each receive a stipend each semester that totals $500 per year in exchange for their service to Houghton College and the wider church community.
