Dr. De Boer holds the B.Mus degree in Trumpet Performance and the M. Mus. degree in Historical Musicology from the Manhattan School of Music. He holds the D. Mus. degree in Brass Pedagogy/Literature and Music History from Indiana University, Bloomington. His trumpet studies were with Louis Davidson, former principal trumpet of the Cleveland Orchestra, Gerard Schwarz, former principal trumpet of the New York Philharmonic, and Cecil Collins of the Manhattan School. He has performed professionally with the Rochester Philharmonic, the Bach Choir of Bethlehem, The Roanoke (VA) Symphony Orchestra and the Indiana Festival Orchestra.
Before coming to Houghton College, he taught at Howard Payne University, Liberty University, Louisiana College and Roberts Wesleyan College.
