Certificate Programs

The Certificates in Ministry and Christian Education are offered under the auspices of Houghton College, Houghton, NY.

To receive the Certificate in Ministry or Christian Education, students must complete 12 courses of study. The program can be completed in 1-2 years (or 6 terms) by taking two to four courses per term. Upon completion of the Certificate Program, twelve (12) hours of academic credit can be applied toward an Associates or Baccalaureate degree through Empire State College, SUNY.

There are no specific admission requirements for the Certificate/General Entry level programs. Any person desiring to pursue ministerial or Christian education is eligible for admission to the Certificate Programs regardless of age, gender, or educational status.

The Certificate in Ministry curriculum is designed to enhance your knowledge of the may facets of ministry, i.e. prayer, counseling, worship, congregation membership, mentoring, community justice, and church administration.

The Certificate in Christian Education curriculum is designed to equip students for studying, teaching, and/or administrating in Christian Education programs. Course work prepares you for Bible Study, Sunday School, and theological reflection and research.

Courses are offered three times per year:

Fall Term (September-November),

Spring Term (January-March), and

Summer Term (April-July).

Each term lasts eight (8) weeks, with each course meeting 1 night per week. The class sessions are three (3) per night. Classes are held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday evenings from 6:30 - 9:30 PM and Saturday mornings from 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM. These meeting days and times remain constant for each class, unless an agreement is made between the faculty, students and Administration.
