PHILOSOPHY MAJOR:
Houghton offers a major and minor in philosophy, leading to the B.A. degree. The major consists of 24 credit hours of coursework (in addition to Ethics and Knowledge and Reality, courses required as part of Houghton’s integrative studies program). The core of the philosophy program is found in two required courses in History of Philosophy, plus either Critical Thinking or Formal Logic. Elective courses focus on various major figures and movements in philosophy.

PHILOSOPHY MINOR:
The minor in philosophy requires 12 hours of coursework in philosophy, including at least one course in History of Philosophy.

History of Philosophy II (PHIL 241) 4 hours
  One of the following:
• Critical Thinking (PHIL 223)
• Formal Logic (PHIL 224)
2 hours
400 level courses in philosophy (PHIL 4xx) 6 hours
Elective philosophy courses 8 hours
