Notes: Houghton (11-2) upset the 12th-ranked Raiders,
2-0, avenging a 1-0 loss at Roberts earlier in the season. Sanjeev Parmar
opened the scoring in the ninth minute after stealing the ball deep in
Roberts’ end. Dribbling to his left at the 18, Parmar used the outside
of his right foot to slip a shot back inside the right post. Will Cushing
gave the Highlanders some breathing room in the second half, deflecting
a 15-yard shot off a Roberts’ defender and into the net. Houghton’s defense
stifled the Raiders’ attack, while the offensive pressure created numerous
scoring chances. The Highlanders, who held an 11-5 advantage in shots on
goal, just missed on several other opportunities. Tim Mayhle made five
saves for Houghton. Richard Goddard made nine saves for Roberts Wesleyan.

Notes: Houghton opened the scoring in the 5th minute
when Tinsley's corner kick found the head of Toohig, who found the back
of the net for the third straight game. The Highlanders looked to have
pushed the lead to 2-0 wth five minutes to go in the first half when David
Bancroft ripped a shot from 15 yards out. The ball deflected out of the
goal after hitting a support at the back of the net. The officials declared
"no goal," saying the shot hit the left post. Videotape clearly shows the
ball reaching the back of the net before bouncing out. Tyler Stevenson
did give Houghton a 2-0 lead in the 65th minute, following a hard shot
by Eddie Acker that the keeper couldn't handle.

two goals in the final minutes to put away a competitive Geneva team. Though
sloppy play plagued the Highlanders (9-1) throughout the contest, they
were able to get on the board in the 17th minute when David Bancroft found
John Toohig off a corner. Toohig settled the ball on the right and sent
a shot into the upper near corner. Late in the game Bancroft made a run
down the right and centered to Sanjeev Parmar, who redirected the shot
past the keeper to give Houghton some breathing room. Bancroft scored his
eighth goal of the season two minutes later when Todd Bradley found him
all alone on the left. Bancroft took his time, placing a perfect shot into

with Alfred, downing the visitors, 6-1. Tyler Stevenson opened the scoring,
flicking a header over the keeper after John Toohig lifted a pass toward
the net. Todd Bradley followed with his seventh goal of the season off
an assist from Rusty Knight. Knight's hard volley bounced off the keeper
to Bradley who put in the rebound. David Bancroft's direct kick from outside
the right corner of the 18 made the score 3-0 at half. Mamoru Miyazaki
scored his first career goal in the 52nd minute, before Alfred responded
with its only tally of the night. Bradley scored his second in the 79th
minute, tracking down a long pass from Knight on the left, flicking it
over a defender and blasting a low shot past the keeper. Stevenson closed

College improved to 6-0-0 with a 5-0 win over visiting Teikyo-Post University
on Saturday.
The Highlanders, ranked No. 1 in NAIA Region IX and No.
11 in the NAIA National poll, have yet to allow a goal this season.
They didn't waste any time getting on the board, Saturday.
Just seven minutes into the contest, Bradley took a nicely played pass
from David Bancroft (Stockport, England), found himself one-on-one with
the keeper, and sent a shot just inside the post.
Bradley and Bancroft teamed up again in the 27th minute
when Bancroft's cross from the right glanced off the back of a player to
a waiting Bradley just inside the 18. Bradley volleyed a low shot through
a maze of players and past the sprawling keeper.
The two players switched roles for the next Houghton tally.
Bradley made a run down the right and centered to Bancroft who quickly
redirected the shot into the net from three yards out.
Bradley didn't need any help on his third goal. In the
41st minute, he stole a pass from a Teikyo Post defender 30 yards from
the net, dribbled in all alone and ripped a low shot past the keeper.
Freshman Dan Wesche (Atlanta, Ga. / Newnan HS) scored
his first career goal in the 81st minute off an assist from Bradley to
close out the scoring.

Notes: In an evenly played contest against the
NAIA's 24th ranked team, Highlanders freshman substitution Eddie Acker
netted the game winner with his first career goal in the 62nd minute. David
Bancroft served up a brilliant direct kick 30 yards out from the left and
found Jeff Vaughn on the far post. Vaughn headed the ball down to the front
of the net and Acker slipped it low past the keeper. "It was a very satisfying
win; our best team effort in a while," said head coach Dwight Hornibrook.
"We played great defensively against a ranked team. We're proving we still
belong in the top 25."
• It was the Highlanders' first season-opening win since
1995.
