this grid depends on initial negotiation based on previous experience and
education as determined by the Dean. "Vertical" progress is one step per year.
"Horizontal" progress is by completion of education and/or promotion as
described in the Faculty Handbook.

3. Average number of departmental minor graduates for last 3 years x .01 x 2

4. Total number of hours taught in the department in previous 2

Chair load is
compensated as follows:
1. If load credit is less than 3 hours & teaching load is 24 or more, cash
for entire credit.
2. If load credit is more than 3 hours & teaching load is 21 or more, cash
for the excess above 3.

Art faculty teach 7 courses/year (4
@3 units+3 @3 units) for a total of 21 credit load. However this means 28 hours
of contact time with students (16+12) (Studio courses are taught with 2 sessions
of 2 hours each WITH faculty and 1 session of 2 hours in studio WITHOUT faculty
always present; as indicated in chart above.) Sometimes/Often the 7th course is
a lecture class NOT a studio class so in this case the contact time during the
semester with 4 courses would be 15 (3 @4hrs + 1 @3hrs) not 16.

Multiple sections are combined and team taught with plenary lectures and smaller
discussion groups: Teamed faculty both receive 1 hr course load credit for
shared plenary lectures and each receives 1 hr credit for each discussion
section. The total load credit assigned remains the same as if the multiple
sections of approximately 40 students each were each handled by a single faculty
member receiving 3 hrs load credit per section.
