Director: Dr. Timothy J. Nichols
It is both a privilege and a pleasure to work with Houghton
students throughout their college experience. First and second year students
frequently come in for guidance about major selection and major changes. Second
and third year students come through our doors for resources and discussion
about connecting major and career, graduate school planning and preparation, and
sometimes just for a friendly ear to discuss career ideas. Still it remains the
senior student, about to graduate, that most frequently visits the Career
Services Office. Our most popular offerings for seniors include resume
critique, mock interviews, and credential files. Our remaining constituency
includes our alumni - those contemplating a job search, a redirection or
re-launching. Wherever you are on your career path, we have help and guidance
to offer. I always remind graduates that whereas their ID cards will no longer
work to eat in the Dining Hall after commencement, their status as Houghton
College alumni always entitles them to career counseling.
I have worked in the field of student life for over twenty years now. I was a
1981 Houghton graduate. I hold master's degree in Student Personnel
Administration. In 1996 I completed a PhD in the Social & Philosophical
Foundations of Education from the University at Buffalo. I also teach
part-time in the History Department at Houghton. I live in nearby Fillmore with
my wife Olga, three children, and assorted pets.
I look forward to working with and serving you as you consider career issues.
Please feel free to stop by any time.

Administrative Assistant: Eva Hillman
Welcome to Career Services. You’ll find me in the middle of
the main office with the great window view. I began
work at Houghton College in 1996 as the Administrative Assistant with Career & Counseling Services,
and hold a Bachelor’s of Science in Management from the PACE program.
I live nearby in Belfast with my husband, Mike. We have two daughters,
one of
whom is now a Houghton alumna, and the other is currently a senior!
My position here gives me an opportunity to work
directly with students, and I really enjoy getting to know them throughout the
year. I look forward to meeting you! So stop in and make
yourself comfortable.
