YULETIDE CELEBRATION

For over three decades, the college has hosted the Madrigal Dinners. Fusing the best of medieval court music with the festivity of a traditional English banquet, the dinners served guests for nearly 40 years. Concurrently, the Houghton Wesleyan Church, just down the hill, offered a Christmas candlelight concert. This year, the Greatbatch School of Music is expanding on these fine traditions--combining the best of them--into a feast of extraordinary musical fare. Tonight we bring you an extravagant production featuring all five college choral ensembles and the Houghton College Philharmonia.

Rejoice, Rejoice Believers and Let Your Light Appear! is a celebration of the Christmas story, bringing to you the light and peace of Christ. Liturgical readings and selected choral music will usher in the season of our Savior and the light and peace that He is. We will perform three of the five movements of Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna, focusing on the listener preparing to receive the story of Christ’s birth. The music and readings will involve feelings of the advent season-- awaiting the coming of our Lord, his birth, and our reaction to this good news as angels bring a message full of glory of that humble nativity, and we who hear find strength in our faith in the living Christ, our true Light.
