Welcome to VOCAL MUSIC at Houghton College...

It is our goal to provide an outstanding vocal experience for all Houghton College students.  The five choral ensembles offer singers, both graduate and undergraduate, an opportunity for training, musical exploration, and personal growth in all aspects of the choral art.  Nearly twenty percent of the entire student body chooses to participate in a choral ensemble.  For Houghton College students singing is a passion.  It is understood at Houghton that music is essential to a liberal arts education.  Even with a significant music major population, the larger percentages of our singers are non-majors who love to sing and value its role in their lives. 

Our mission is to:

Shape the lives of Houghton College students who participate in choral music by:

Providing musical experiences that will inspire and serve as models of possibility for a lifetime,

Integrating faith and music in such tangible ways that students draw closer to God, and become articulate in how music has played a vital role in their personal faith journey,

Teaching all students who participate in choral ensembles the fundamental elements of music preparing students for life-long involvement in the choral arts.
