Is Drinking Becoming A Problem?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A simple 12 question quiz to help you decide. Adapted from A.A. World Services, New York, 1980. Answer yes or no to the following questions.*
1. Do you drink because you have problems? To face up to stressful situations? (Do you think that it relieves anxiety?) Yes
No
2. Do you drink when you get angry at other people? Or when other people hurt you? (Do you think it helps to remove pain?) Yes
No
3. Do you drink alone as well as with friends? Or do you often prefer to drink alone? Yes
No
4. Are your grades starting to slip? Are you cutting classes because you can’t get up in the morning after drinking? (Does it also effect other areas of your life?) Yes
No
5. Have you tried to stop drinking...or drink less - and failed? Yes
No
6. Have you begun to drink before classes, or before a test, to "calm" yourself for the day/event? Yes
No
7. Do you gulp your drinks as if to satisfy a great thirst? Yes
No
8. Do you ever have loss of memory due to your drinking? Yes
No
9. Do you avoid being honest with others about your drinking? Yes
No
10. Do you ever get into trouble when you are drinking? (Examples: fighting, compromising sexual situations, etc.) Yes
No
11. Do you often get drunk when you drink, even when you told yourself you wouldn’t this time? Yes
No
12. Do you believe (be honest) that "holding your liquor" is some type of achievement or something to boast about? Yes
No

Scoring: These twelve questions are designed to help you to decide if you have a problem with your own drinking. The answers are nobody’s business but your own. If you answered yes to any one of these questions, maybe it’s time to take a look at what your drinking might be doing to you.

On Campus Help
There are some resources available to you if you do need help or if you’d just like to talk with someone about your drinking. You can contact Ange Szymanski, our campus A.A. contact, at extension 4860 during the work day, or at 585.365.2378 or 585.808.538 (Cell Phone) after hours. Ange would prefer you to call him at home after hours rather than "wait 'til tomorrow."

If you would like more information about a group, contact Ange at the numbers above, or you can arrange to speak with a counselor at the Counseling Center. Please give us a call at extension 6220. You need not give us your name if you are looking for information. We will help in whatever way we can.
