Journal. A journal of notes and thoughts reflecting on your interaction
with the culture. This is not a personal diary and it will be read by
others. Sources: experiences, observations, readings, interviews. We are
expecting 3-4 entries a week during your time off campus. We are also
expecting:
N - Narrative – what happened, where did you go, what did you do,
description
I – Information – what you learned, who taught you
P – Personal – Your reflection on that, how did it effected you? What
questions it raised. What questions it answered.
Cultural Profile.
(As introduced in INCL 211). Minimum 10 pages double spaced. This was
introduced in your INCL 211 course with Dr. Pollock. However, your source
there was primarily outside research. This profile is primarily from
personal experience, observations, readings, and interviews. We are
expecting that you will cover at least 6 topics: Including such topics as:
Language, Art, Music, Food, Health, Family, Education, Economics,
Government, Gender Roles and Relationships, Marriage, Religion, etc.
Note: For Houghton programs (e.g.Tanzania) director will include
assignments into the program. Equivalent assignments completed for other Study
Abroad programs (e.g. CCCU programs) may be submitted if cleared with On-Campus
Mentor.
Notes: A maximum total of 17 credit hours (including the 4 hour Intercultural Experience) may be recorded on your transcript for any one semester's work or during an equivalent time period. Unless one has special permission a student may then earn no more than 13 credits other than the INCL 311 experience during the semester he/she signs up for INCL 311. Tuition will be charged at the rate indicated in the college catalog. Special Mayterm and summer rates may apply.
