Basketball Rules
1. Games will consist of two 20-minute halves and a 6-minute half time.
The time will only be stopped for official time-outs.
Officials may stop the clock for unusual delays.
During the last two minutes of the 2nd half, the clock will be
stopped on every whistle.
2. Teams must line up promptly for jump balls and foul shots; officials are
instructed to penalize teams that delay the game through obvious tactics.
The clock will be stopped and a technical foul will be awarded when such
a situation occurs.
3. Each team will be permitted one time-out per half; the time-out will be
one minute in duration and will not carry-over to the other half.
4. Substitutions may be made anytime the ball is dead.
Technical foul for violating this rule.
5. Fouls will not be tracked; however the official may warn a specific
player who continually fouls the opposition. If the individual continues to foul in an inappropriate
manner, the official may eject that player from the game. In the last 5 minutes
of the game, any foul will result in a 1-and-1 free throw (2 free throws for a
shooting foul). In the last 2
minutes, each foul will result in a 2 shot penalty.
6. Free throws are not taken on fouls committed by the offensive team.
The offensive player is charged with a foul; however, the defensive
player or team takes the ball out of bounds at the spot nearest the violation.
This rule applies when player control prevails – not when the ball is
in flight or rolling or lying on the floor.
7. Overtime – will consist of 3 minutes in length and each team will
receive an extra time-out for each overtime period.
The overtime will be started with a jump ball.
8. Foul at the end of the half or game – players will not line up around the key.
9. Technical fouls will result in 2 free throws and possession of the ball
(at half court)
10. Three, five, and ten second rules will be in effect.
11. An intentional foul will result in two free throws and possession for the
opposing team. A second intentional
foul by the same person will result in 2 free throws, possession, and ejection.
12. If a person associated with a team enters the court while a game is in
progress, a technical foul is called.
13. Teams must be ready to play within 10 minutes of the scheduled start time
and must have a least 4 players to start otherwise the game will be a forfeit.
14. During a free throw, players may enter the lane once the ball leaves the
shooter’s hand. The shooter must
remain behind the free throw line until the ball touches the rim.
15. If officials do not agree on a call, a jump ball shall be called.
Jump balls will be awarded on an alternating basis.
16. If an injured player cannot complete foul shots, he/she may not re-enter
the game.
17. Official time-outs are not awarded for equipment changes – the team
must absorb it.
18. There should be a maximum of 15 players
and a minimum of 7 players.
19. Teams listed
first on the schedule will be the home team and wear white shirts. The
second team listed must wear dark shirts.
