Houghton is a great school!
-
I am proud to have my daughter attend Houghton.
To me, Houghton represents integrity, faith in Christ, and academic excellence.
Houghton provides the opportunity to grow, even flourish, in a caring environment.
I doubt if I could be more pleased overall. Houghton offers fine
options - and does that in a personal and competent way.
-
I have appreciated the facultyís helpful attitude,
housing help for visits have been good.
-
Our sonís experience here has been positive.
-
Houghton is an outstanding school, we love
the atmosphere and location
-
Will not return next year
-
Admissions and financial aid made extra efforts
to allow for a smooth transition.
-
I was disappointed with the bookstore ethics
(textbook buybacks)
-
We've had a great year at Houghton.
It's been a true blessing. Thank you!
-
Counseling services need to be improved.
-
Without a car feels isolated.
-
Course selection is difficult for freshmen
-
Person in student accounts was very rude
-
We are delighted that our daughter will be
attending another college in the fall!
-
Phone system was terrible
-
The telephone system is great ó except if
you are calling from a rotary phone. The few occasions when we were
away from home and had to leave messages we were calling from a church's
rotary phone and could not leave a message.

Too much emphasis and money put on music program.
Student made to feel as if she wasn't a music major she was inferior.
Student felt music majors were given more scholorships and funding to return.
Student was told at beginning of freshmen year that special education would
be offered in 2001-2002 and now they are saying that course will not be
offered. So my daughter is considering not returning in the fall.
She loved the professors and campus life, but feels it is too much muney
to be spent if they do not offer the course selection for the career she
is interested in.

Too bad you can't keep Dr. ______. She
is great. Dr. _______ has a confusing theology ó some of the students
are better grounded on the basics than he isÖ I know from reading some
of his writing. The Bible is clear that there are no female pastors
in scripture ó so why would you invite one to speak at chapel? Tony
Camploa is also biblically confused as Dr. Paige pointed out ó his presentation
confused the student body ó I would sooner have seen a debate immediately
following controversial presentations. Student Life felt the need
to bring AET group on campus to present skits on very questionable subjects
ó they had to change their language so as not to be so offensive to the
student body. Why are you bringing ungodly influences on campus?
A wintssing opportunity? This is scriptually unsound ó we are to
witness to the unsaved, but not give them a platform to influence impressionable
minds with Satan's messages. On the latest Spanish trip to Honduras,
there was blatant alcohol use among our students ó this must be addressed!

I think the college could be a little more
generous when there is new student orientation and Parent's Weekend.
RWC doesn't even charge for meals when parents come along when their child
is just considering the college, say nothing of students who have already
been accepted there!!! Meals are free for parents of prospective
students even!! If you do choose to drop in and visit your student
at RWC, meals are only a couple of bucks as opposed to $4.00 that we were
charged at new student orientation at Houghton! Don't you get enough
from tuition to be a little more generous than that? I didn't even
come to Parent's Weekend last fall. I felt like it was a fleece job.
Charges for just about everything!!!

He felt like much of FYI was not worthwhile
(says small group part was not worth it because his leader didn't do much.
-
Billing was not timely; business office seems
to have too many technical "glitches". Timing of bills and payments
never seem to coincide.
-
I want to commend Houghton for its excellence
in capital expenditures, for its long-term stability in administrative
leadership, and for its continuing commitment to its evangelical Christian
mission. The academic quality of the First Year Honors Program was
a major influence in the decision to attend Houghton, and it was an incredibly
enriching experience.

Professors genuinely love their students.
I wish the professors (in their individual departments) would teach/have
a more uniform curriculum. Some teach more grammar than others, some
have students read more, some have students write more.
