Current students who decide
to take a foreign language placement test after beginning their studies at
Houghton can do so online.
The only exception to this is the Latin placement exam which needs to be
arranged with the Foreign Language Departmental Assistant.
*You should take the exam no earlier than six months before enrolling in your language course work.
**Take test ONCE. If you do not believe that your score accurately reflects your proficiency, wait two weeks before taking the test again.
The French, Spanish, and German placement tests can be taken on the web using the following address:
| Exam website | http://webcape.byuhtrsc.org/?acct=houghton |
| Password | tower1 (all lower case) |
*Once you have completed the exam, be sure to email Jane Miner or Dr. Collins-Blair informing them that you have taken the exam.
Your exam results will be automatically forwarded to Houghton College. To view your results, log into the exam again, fill in the top part of the survey, then press the resume button.
If your placement test places you beyond the intermediate level, then you will not be required to take more language courses (although we would encourage you to do so) for graduation. However, we will require a short interview with you to verify that you took the test and have obtained that placement. You will receive a notice from us indicating your need to schedule this interview.
Since the Latin placement test is not online, please contact Jane Miner if you need to take this exam.
