Mr. Sutherland, a native of Clarence, New York, was appointed to the position of Principal Tubist with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra in September of 2004. Prior to joining the RPO, Craig served ten seasons as Tubist with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, in Charleston, SC. Shortly after receiving his Bachelor's degree in Music Education from the University of Michigan, Craig served as Principal Tubist with the Hofer Symphoniker and Rekkenze Brass Quintet, in Hof, Germany. Upon returning to the States, Mr. Sutherland was awarded a full-scholarship to attend The Juilliard School where he earned his Master's degree. Craig has also performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Seattle Symphony.

While in Charleston, Mr. Sutherland was an active educator, serving as Adjunct Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at Charleston Southern University, as well as teaching privately, and conducting master classes in area high schools. He received excellent reviews of his performance of the Ralph Vaughan Williams Tuba Concerto with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. He also was a soloist in recital with the Charleston Conical Brass Ensemble, at the University of South Carolina School of Music, in addition to presenting a master class for the horn and tuba studios there.

In April of 2005, Mr. Sutherland was invited by Don Harry to conduct a master class and recital at the Eastman School. In the summer of 2005, he served on faculty in Saratoga, NY at the New York State Summer School of the Arts, in conjunction with his performances with the Philadelphia Orchestra. He also served on faculty for the Music Horizons program at the Eastman Community Music School. Additionally, he is currently the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra low brass mentor.

Mr. Sutherland is an active music educator in the Rochester area and beyond, currently serving on the faculty at the Eastman Community Music School, as well as Adjunct Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at Roberts Wesleyan College, and the Greatbatch School of Music at Houghton College., and as a performing faculty member at the Brevard Music Center, in Brevard, NC.

Mr. Sutherland is also available for tuba recitals, master classes, and low brass ensemble coaching at the high school level.
