Cristina Ballatori, flutist, is an active performer and teacher, regularly appearing throughout the U.S. as a recitalist, chamber musician and clinician. She completed her DMA in Flute Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2006. The recipient of a 2003-2004 Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Fellowship, she received a postgraduate diploma from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England where she studied with Peter Lloyd, retired principal flutist of the London Symphony Orchestra. Her major teachers include Alexa Still, Katherine Kemler, and Judith Lapple; additional studies with Bonita Boyd.
Former piccoloist of the Acadiana Symphony in Lafayette, Louisiana, Dr. Ballatori has been a prizewinner in several competitions including the Flute Society of Washington, D.C.’s Young Artist Competition. Most recently, her doctoral thesis, “Suite Paysanne Hongroise for Flute and Piano by Béla Bartók/Arr. Paul Arma: A Performer’s Guide,” was named a winner of the National Flute Association’s 2007 Dissertation Competition for its outstanding contribution to flute research. An energetic performer and clinician, Dr. Ballatori has appeared at various flute festivals and music conferences including the 2007 National Flute Association Convention, Florida Flute Association Flute Festival, Mid-Atlantic Flute Fair (D.C), and International Double Reed Society Conference at Ithaca College. Upcoming engagements include featured performances and workshops in Texas, Tennessee, Louisiana, and Arizona.
A passionate advocate for music education and a dedicated teacher, Dr. Ballatori has presented music workshops for the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation’s “Live! Music Now” program, and given guest master classes at universities such Louisiana State University, Roberts Wesleyan College, and Nazareth College among others.
