Brandon P. Johnson is the Director of Choral Activities and Associate Professor of Conducting and Voice at the Greatbatch School of Music, Houghton College. Dr. Johnson heads the Houghton College choral program comprised of five choral ensembles, and administers the masters of music degree in choral conducting. He teaches choral conducting, graduate choral techniques and literature, and private conducting at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Johnson is a graduate of Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota and has received graduate instruction from the Eastman School of Music, Westminster Choir College, and the University of Arizona; where he received Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in Choral Conducting. Gaining experience with professional choruses and orchestras, Johnson was selected to conduct the Rochester Philharmonic as a part of the Eastman orchestral conducting institute and is scheduled to conduct the Syracuse Symphony during the 2007-2008 academic year. In addition, this fall he will conduct the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus and has been named an artistic advisory board to the Festival Choir in Madison WI. Johnson’s conducting instructors include: Bruce Chamberlain, René Clausen, Daniel Moe, Maurice Skones and Neil Varon.
Dr. Johnson is an active board member of the American Choral Directors Association and is currently serving as the Youth and Student Activities Repertoire and Standards Chair for the State of New York. His students have been selected to participate in several recent ACDA conducting events including: the 2007 national ACDA conducting competition, 2006 conducting master-class at the Eastern Division Convention, and the 2006 New York ACDA winter convention, In addition he has been invited to present conducting master-class sessions at the last three New York State ACDA conventions.
Johnson actively serves the church music community directing choral ensembles in Minnesota, Arizona and is currently serving as the Chancel Choir Director for Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fairport, New York.
He currently lives in Houghton with his wife Danielle, daughter Marit, and twin sons Luke and Quin.
