Ernest Lascell is a member of the music faculty at SUNY Geneseo and a member of the State University of New York at Geneseo Woodwind Quintet in Residence. He is a native of Rochester, New York. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Nazareth College of Rochester in 1976 and his Master's Degree in Performance and Literature from Northwestern University in 1979. He has studied clarinet with Robert Marcellus, Larry Combs, Clark Brody, James Pine, Michael Webster and Stanley Gaulke.
In addition to his work at SUNY Geneseo, he is Director of Instrumental Music at Bloomfield Middle and Senior High School, a post he has held since 1984. The performing groups under his leadership include the Middle and Senior High Concert Bands, High School Jazz Ensemble and Marching Bands. All groups have traveled extensively and been the recipient of many awards and distinctions. He is the 2005 recipient of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Musicians' Award for Outstanding Music Educator of the Year.
Mr. Lascell has also been an active performer in the Rochester area, appearing with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Rochester Oratorio Society, Rochester Broadway Theater League Productions, area chamber music groups and as soloist with the SUNY Geneseo Wind Ensemble, the Tremont String Quartet and the Geneseo Friends of Music Orchestra. In May of 2006 he traveled to China with the Geneseo Symphony Orchestra as guest soloist.
