Violist, violinist and violist d’amore, Donna Lorenzo has performed internationally on five continents. Her solo and chamber music performances include concerts at Carnegie’s Weill Hall, Lincoln Center, Kilbourn Hall, La Scala, Paris Opera, Leipzig’s Gewandhaus, and other venues. Music festival performances include the Salzburg, Aspen, Edinburgh, Gstaad, Stuttgart, Jerusalem and other festivals . In 1979, she was invited to be principal viola and viola d’amore soloist with I Solisti Veneti, performing and recording with them as chamber musician and soloist in major halls and venues worldwide. During that period, she was also principal viola soloist with the chamber orchestra of Padova and Veneto. She has performed with the Buffalo Philharmonic, Phoenix Symphony, and the Chautauqua Symphony. Lorenzo appears regularly at the Roycroft Summer Chamber Music Festival and is a member of the Ars Nova Chamber Musicians. With that group, she has performed and recorded as viola d’amore soloist and has premiered many works, old and new for viola and viola d’amore. She can also be seen and heard in radio, television broadcasts and movies for NPR, PBS, Worldvision, Eurovision and RAI. Recording labels include ERATO-WEA, BMG-RCA, CBS, RAI, Frequenz and Dynamic. Donna Lorenzo also researches old and promotes new music. She is also known for her improvisation on hymn melodies and the Psalms.

Professor Lorenzo’s teaching studio includes coaching chamber music, orchestral repertoire, and master classes as well as private teaching. In 2003, she was honored to receive the Eastman School of Music prize for outstanding private studio teaching. Her students have gone on to careers as professional performers and teachers.

Dr. Lorenzo holds degrees from The Juilliard School of Music, Eastman School of Music and Houghton College. Teachers and coaches include Eldon Basney, Lillian Fuchs, Francis Tursi, John Graham, Mischa Schneider, The Juilliard Quartet and the American Quartet.
