- Efferent nerves: Motor signals
- Afferent nerves: Sensory signals
- Includes cranial nerves I and II (Olfactory and Optic), and parts of several other cranial nerves
- Often called the voluntary nervous system, the somatic system includes many involuntary functions such as sensations and reflex movements.
