Essay questions: Consider the topic outline in the syllabus, as well as the following:

1. Describe and evaluate the various approaches to research in human sexuality.

2. Describe and evaluate both sides of the debate over female genital surgery.

3. Should you study human sexuality? Why?

4. Describe the process of erection, physiologically speaking. What drug treatments are available for erectile dysfunction? Are those drugs aphrodisiacs?

5. Explain the research on gender similarities and differences in sexual arousal, including Meston (2003) and Bailey (2003).

6. Compare and contrast two models of human sexual response.

7. Present and evaluate the criticisms of the models of human sexual response, including variations from the pattern.

8. What role do hormones and drugs play in sexual arousal?

13.  What is the hymen?  How does it vary?  Is the condition of the hymen a reliable indicator of virginity?  Why or why not?

14.  What role do the various senses play in sexual arousal?

15.  How do pheromones influence sexuality? Is there a structural basis for pheromone activity in human beings (a functional vomeronasal organ, for example)?

16.  Is Viagra/sildenafil of any benefit for women? Under what circumstances?

18. Explain the components and activities of sexual health, including self-examinations, physicians' examinations, abnormal signs, and health maintenance activities for both genders.

19. Outline the phases of the menstrual cycle, explaining what happens hormonally, physiologically, psychologically, and socially.

20. Is circumcision of males a good practice? Consider both sides of the debate, and draw a reasoned conclusion.

A good tactic for studying terms is to organize the terms into groups that are meaningful to you.
