Senior Class Gift Policy

Guidelines

  1. A class gift must not require significant college funds for installation or maintenance so as not to create a future financial drain on the college budget.
  2. One class may choose to cooperate with another class in order to be able to make a more substantial contribution to the campus.
  3. A class may choose to integrate class funds with the Senior Class Challenge in order to increase scholarship funds or class gift opportunities.
  4. A class gift should benefit the majority of the college community, especially students.

Procedures

  1. By September, the Vice President for Finance will compile a list of gift options to meet current college needs. This list will represent various areas of the college (with the input of the Dean of Students, Academic Dean, Vice President for Development, etc.). He will submit a list of proposed gifts with estimated costs at a September administrative  committee meeting.
  2. During October, the appropriate senior class leaders will meet with the Vice President for Finance to explore current college needs. A class gift of a "permanent" nature should be given priority over items which will be worn out (carpets, drapes, etc.)
  3. In December, the senior class cabinet in conjunction with the class advisors will evaluate recommended projects in light of available funds.
  4. The class cabinet may recommend up to three possible projects in order of priority and capability of funding which will then be reviewed by the Vice President for Finance.
  5. In January, the Vice President for Finance will present proposed projects for the senior class gift to the administrative committee and will inform the class of the response of the committee.
  6. In February, with the approval of proposed projects by the Vice President for Finance, the class cabinet may submit the list of projects to the class membership for a vote.
  7. In early March, the Vice President for Finance is to be notified regarding the outcome of the class vote.
  8. Funds remaining in the class treasury following payment of the class gift may be applied to the senior class challenge scholarship or may be left to accumulate toward five and/or ten year class reunions.
