Open House Policies:
Definition of Open House: A designated time during which a student's room is open to opposite-gender visitors. It is a time to socialize with friends but is not an appropriate time to lie on your bed with your boyfriend/girlfriend, do extensive kissing, close the door so you can be alone with your boyfriend/girlfriend, or make others on the floor uncomfortable with your behavior.
Procedures:
- All opposite-gender visitors must sign in at the residence hall desk and leave their student ID. Non-student visitors must leave a driver's license. When signing in the visitor must indicate the name of the person he/she will be visiting, the person's room number, date and time. (If you and your visitor decide to go into another resident's room, your visitor must notify the desk of the room change).
- During Open House Visitation the following is expected:
A. The room door must be open all the way, such that those in the
room are easily visible to those outside the room. The main light should be left on in the room at all times, even when movies etc are being viewed.
B. Anyone should be able to walk into your room without
embarrassing you or themselves.
C. Both parties should be sitting up and never upon one another.
D. Keep noise at a reasonable level and have conversations with
your guests in your rooms rather than in the hallways.
E. Visitors must leave promptly at the close of Open House which
is 11:00 p.m. and sign out immediately with the Desk Proctor, indicating the time they are leaving.
- If you or your visitor do not abide by these expectations, an RA will confront your inappropriate behavior tactfully and log the incident for the RD. If participants are uncooperative, the RD or RDA will be called on to intervene immediately and Open House privileges may be revoked. If either you or your visitor have to be asked more than twice to follow the expectations at any time during the year, your Open House privileges will be revoked for a time determined by the RD. If a visitor does not sign out of Open House promptly they will receive a reminder notice from the RD. If the problems occur again the individual will be asked to meet with the RD.
