Student Organizations on Campus
ACO (Allegany County Outreach)
Allegany County Outreach (ACO) is an organization that provides students with the opportunity to engage in community outreach through connecting with the children of Allegany County and their families. Students are paired up with one local child and are given the chance to mentor him or her throughout the school year. This includes participating in group outings and events, and helping with school work.

Artist Guild
The Artist Guild was established to help give both art majors and non-art majors the opportunity to enjoy art outside the classroom. This club explores the art of the masters through trips to galleries in places like New York City as well as encourages the Houghton community to enjoy student art around campus. The Artist Guild sponsors art shows and also displays student art work in Java 101, the coffee shop on Houghton’s campus.

Baseball Club (Club Sport)
The Baseball Club is a club sport that allows students to share their enjoyment of baseball with other students on the Houghton campus. Baseball Club plays baseball, on a club sport level, against other schools in the surrounding areas. The majority of games are held in the Spring semester.

CAB (Campus Activities Board)
Campus Activities Board (CAB) is a student organization that plans campus wide activities that are both fun and community building. From hoedowns to Halloween parties to movies in the chapel and rallies at sporting events - CAB plans them all. Students can volunteer to help with just one event or, if they want to be more involved, they can apply for year-long positions as CAB staff.

Climbing Club
The Climbing Club allows students with a love of climbing, or students who are interested in learning how to climb, the opportunity to learn about and participate in an activity they enjoy. The Nielsen Physical Education Center is equipped with both a climbing wall and cave that Climbing Club members can use to better their climbing abilities. Climbing Club also takes kayaking and rafting trips to the surrounding Houghton area as well as to places such as Rattle Snake Point in Canada and “The Gunks” in New Paltz, New York. Other events include climbing competitions, bouldering and climbing. Gear for climbers is provided by the Climbing Cub.

Encore
Encore is a newly formed student club that specializes in drama, specifically one-act plays. This club was created in order to give students an outlet for their theatrical talents and their love of drama by putting on productions each semester.

Equestrian Society
The Equestrian Society allows for equestrian majors and non-equestrian majors to spend time cultivating their knowledge and love of horses. Housed at the Houghton College Equestrian Center, this club welcomes new riders and experienced equestrians.

ESA (Evangelicals for Social Action)
Evangelicals for Social Action (ESA) is an organization that chooses social initiatives to make the campus community aware of throughout the school year. More recently ESA’s main project has been getting students involved with Journey’s End in Buffalo, New York. Journey’s End is a non-profit organization that assists refugee families thrive in their new country and living situation.

Environmental Club
The Environmental Club introduces and engages the Houghton community to simple changes in behavior and habits in an effort to improve Houghton’s “green factor.” They have been involved in activities like placing recycling bins around campus and making the campus aware of its energy use and waste.

Gadfly Society
The Gadfly Society is a club that allows philosophy majors as well as those interested in philosophy to come together and share their interest. This club often sponsors forums and viewings of movies with follow-up discussions that are pertinent to the campus climate.

GCF (Global Christian Fellowship)
Global Christian Fellowship reminds the Houghton students to look not only to those directly around them, but globally as well. GCF coordinates weekly prayer topics that focus on one campus issue and one global issue that are prayed for by the campus community daily. GCF also holds weekly meetings to promote global awareness and action, hosting missionaries as well as students who have a global outlook.

Gospel Choir
Gospel Choir is a student-directed choir, open to all members of the college community. No auditions are required! This choir uses the gospel genre to minister to students on campus as well as churches in the surrounding area.

H2S (Helping Houghton Senior Citizens)
Helping Houghton Senior Citizens (H2S) reaches out to the senior citizens in the Houghton community. By taking trips to the local nursing home (what’s the name of it again?) to spend time playing games, hearing and sharing stories, singing, and just enjoying the company of the nursing home residents, this is an organization that benefits all involved. H2S also coordinates service days throughout the year where Houghton students can volunteer to wash windows, rake leaves, or shovel the drive way of the seniors in the community.

Heritage Club
Heritage Club takes pride in highlighting the diversity of the Houghton campus. They work with the Intercultural Student Association to sponsor the International Banquet that is held every year. They also work with the Student Life Office to plan programming for celebrations like Black History Month.

Imitators of Christ
Imitators of Christ gives students the opportunity to dig deeper into their Christian faith along side faculty, staff and other non-student community members. Together, the small groups formed through this club choose topics related to the Christian faith to delve into throughout the year.

Impressions (Mime Team)
Impressions encourages the art of mime as a way to minister to others. This club meets together in order to choreograph and perform mimes for the Houghton campus, often times during chapel services.

ISA (Intercultural Student Association)
Intercultural Student Association (ISA) works to enrich the lives of those on Houghton’s campus through the celebration of diversity. ISA, along with Heritage Club, sponsor an annual International Banquet. Each year this banquet chooses a different part of the world to focus on, allowing for Houghton residents to get a small taste of different cultures.

Mercy Seat
Mercy Seat is a student-led worship group that holds praise and worship services every week night of the school year. Mercy Seat provides a worshipful, reverent atmosphere for students through prayer and worship.

Nehemiah’s Restoration
Nehemiah’s Restoration works to improve Houghton’s awareness of social issues, both near to and far from the campus. By planning events for initiatives such as World Aid’s Day, Nehemiah’s Restoration allows students the opportunity to be involved in issues and begin making a difference.
