Paddle Sports
Paddle
Sports is a fun-loving, adventure-some crew, who engage in the
excitement of the water. Through practices held in the college
swimming pool, they learn skills such as how to roll kayaks,
perform wet exits, handle water rescues, and perfect paddling
techniques. This club takes local trips and also enjoys water
sports such as white water rafting, kayaking and sailing.
Physical Education Club
Psychology Club
The
Psychology Club gives students the opportunity to dialogue with
other students who are interested in studies related to the
field of psychology. They often sponsor forums which allow
students to look more deeply into issues of psychology as well
as looking at how the Christian faith relates to psychology.
Gold Bar Club/ROTC
(Army-Reserve Officer Training Corp)
The Gold
Bar Club provides students with the opportunity to participate
in activities that encourage discipline and commitment. This
club meets together for early morning work out sessions, color
guard rehearsals, and trips to Saint Bonaventure University,
where members can connect with others reservists. This club also
gives students the opportunity to participate in ROTC (the
Army-Reserve Officer Training Corp), if they desire. Students do
not have to be members of ROTC in order to participate in the
Gold Bar Club.
SASF (Salvation Army
Student Fellowship)
The
Salvation Army Student Fellowship (SASF) allows students to be
involved with the Salvation Army and its mission. By sponsoring
a Salvation Army store in the basement of the Reinhold Campus
Center every semester, SASF members have the chance to help
further the charge of the Salvation Army.
Shakespeare Players
Shakespeare
Players is a student organization that puts on a
student-directed and produced Shakespeare play every semester.
Students, faculty and community members alike can be involved in
these productions.
Sociology Club
Sociology
Club, formed for those interested in the field of sociology,
allows a place for students to dialogue about local and global
sociological uses. This club sponsors field trips, campus
viewings of movies related to people and culture, and
collaborates with the Psychology Club to invite and sponsor
speakers to address issues pertinent to both fields of study.
Spanish Club
This club
allows for those who have an interest in the Spanish culture and
its language to learn more from each other and faculty about the
culture that they love.
Student Government
Association (SGA)
Student
Government Association (SGA) gives students the chance to be
more involved in policy making, procedural structure and
decision making on the Houghton Campus. Members of SGA give
students a voice on committees around campus as well as voicing
the concerns of fellow classmates on campus.
Swim Club
Swim
Club has practices twice a week open to swimmers of all skill
levels. They host game nights with games including water polo
and Sharks and Minnows. They also sponsor a swim meet every year
that all are welcome to participate in.
TOTT (Teachers of Today
and Tomorrow)
Teachers of
Today and Tomorrow (TOTT) gives Inclusive Childhood Education
Majors as well as and Secondary Education Majors the chance to
connect with each other as well as those who are all ready in
the professional field of education. This club sponsors
activities like mock interviews and discussions of current
topics in the field of education.
Tennis Club
Tennis
Club allows students who are interested in bettering their
tennis play skills to meet together and learn from other tennis
players.
Theological Society
The
Theological Society provides opportunity for faith-themed
dialogue. They invite faculty members from the Theology
department as well as outside guests to foster a community of
open discussion of issues pertinent to the Christian faith.
Youth for Christ
Houghton students, working with the Youth for Christian chapter
in Belfast, are able to meet and mentor children in Allegany
County through weekly meetings and trips to the local public
schools. Youth for Christ allows local children to get to know
positive role models while Houghton students likewise, are
provided with opportunities to learn and grow through working
with these children.
Young Life
Houghton
students work with the Young Life group in Springville to make a
difference in the life of youth. Through weekly meetings as well
as a Young Life conference, students have the opportunity to
minister to youth who need someone to care about them.
