Non-Houghton Owned Devices

Requirements for Attaching Non-College Owned Computers to the Houghton College Network

Although all full-time students are allocated a laptop computer and printer while attending Houghton College, it is recognized that some individuals are interested in attaching personally-owned devices to the Houghton College network.  In order to attach such devices an individual must receive written approval from the office of Technology Services.

It should be noted at the outset that certain types of equipment are NOT permitted on the Houghton College network.  These include:

          Routers

          Switches

          Servers

To obtain approval to connect a personally-owned device to the Houghton College network, the following procedure applies:

  1. Access the following link and log on:  http://apps.houghton.edu/devreg/
    1. If you do not have a log on – follow the directions to register a new account.
  2. Enter the information required for registration.  An e-mail will be sent automatically to the Director of Technology Services with the request.
  3. The Director will then review the information and may approve the request, ask for more information or deny it.  Until you receive an e-mail indicating approval/disapproval from the Director of Technology Services, you may not connect the personally-owned devices under request.
  4. Houghton College is not responsible for any damage to personally-owned devices from whatever source.

Houghton College reserves the right to limit or prohibit access to its network resources at any time, including reversal of the decision to allow access to the network for personally-owned devices.  Reasons for such restrictions are outlined in the Houghton College Acceptable Use Policy and include engagement by a person in suspicious network activity.

Approved access to the Houghton College network for all non-college owned equipment will be suspended at the end of each academic year.  Students must re-register all equipment after August 1st of each year to retain or establish network connectivity for personally-owned devices.
