COURSE PURPOSE


This course will investigate a comprehensive overview of the role of leisure and work within contemporary Western society. Students will begin to develop a personal philosophy of work and leisure as it relates to both their personal life and relationship to society. A strong emphasis will be to integrate the various theories and philosophies of work and leisure with the Christian faith.

DESIRED LEARNING OUTCOME


Demonstrate:
1. an ability to define work and leisure and explain its value to the individual and society as a whole
2. a knowledge of classical and contemporary theories of work and leisure
3. an ability to communicate in writing your personal philosophy of work and leisure
4. an ability to integrate work and leisure theories with the Christian faith
5. an understanding of work and leisure theories throughout the life-cycle
6. an understanding of the value of leisure education, therapy and counseling.
