Web Site Activities
There is a Student Web Site exclusively for users of the Myers in Modules (7th edition) text. To get to it, just click on this link Myers in Modules 7e (or type in http://bcs.worthpublishers.com/myersinmodules7e/default.asp) and you arrive at the Home page. From there you can click on "Sign me up as a student" and then log on, using your whole email address. Provide a password (I use the same password for just about everything, so it is easy to remember). I suggest you place this address in your "favorites" and when you do so, the title becomes "Myers in Modules 7e" in the favorites column.
Now, take some time to explore this student web site. Note that there are the quizzes you will need, flashcards for helping you study, PsychSim tutorials, and other Web Links on psychology as a career and some hot tips for psychology students. Everything else is quite self explanatory. But in case you missed the explanation on how to print out the two Portfolio elements--the 10 quizzes and the 5 PsychSims--in the "Requirements" section, here are the complete instructions for your convenience:
Over the semester, you will complete a Portfolio consisting of ten (10) quizzes (with 100% accuracy) and five (5) PsychSims (simulations) to be submitted April 25. To be sure everyone understands the technology, all students will complete quiz 1 from chapter 1, (that is fifteen multiple choice items with 100 % accuracy), and it will be due on January 26. It will be returned to you for inclusion in your final Portfolio as one of the 10 final quizzes. There will be a reduction in the final Portfolio grade if you do not turn it in. Read the next three paragraphs for more details.
Quizzes: Select any 10 quizzes (there are over 60) for the material we cover in the course. For example, your first quiz is quiz 1 from chapter 1 (note: the Web site calls them chapters, but they are really modules, or "short little chapters." Of course you should do more than these to aid your learning, but 10 is the minimum. Each time you complete a module, you could click on "quizzes" and complete it. Then scroll back up to the beginning of the quiz, where the number correct and percentage are now recorded at the top of the quiz. If it is not 100% (or if you are sure there is an error in the answer key by the computer, retake the quiz again. If you have achieved 100% accuracy, go to "file," click on "print," then under the "print range" select "pages 1 to 1. This prints only the first page of the quiz on which the score is printed. No need to print out the other several pages of the quiz! Every quiz must be completed with 100 percent accuracy. You may take each quiz over as many times as necessary to achieve this accuracy. Be sure to hand print the number of the quizzes at the upper right corner (number 1 through 10) and hand write your name clearly at the top of every quiz. Do not allow any one else to copy your work on these quizzes. Together these quizzes will be half of the portfolio. Do not submit the quizzes using email.
Simulations: There are 20 PsychSim tutorials (activities and simulations) on the Web site, but you only need to do five. Select a PsychSim tutorial on a topic that interests you. Click on the PsychSim 5 table of contents to get a list of all 20 tutorials. That becomes a "module map" from which you may choose any tutorial. But before you get started with a tutorial, scroll down the PsychSim 5 introduction page and click on the link that lets you print out the Psychsim worksheets. When the "file download" window appears, click on "save" (do not "open" from current location) and select a place to download the 37 page document. Most folks place it on the C drive in the "My Documents" folder. But it does not matter as long as you know where to go get it. Once you have downloaded the worksheets file (the first several pages are called "PsychSim Activities"), then scroll down to the particular worksheet, print just that page out, work through the activity, and complete each worksheet section in your own clearly readable handwriting. Include these 5 PsychSim worksheets in the final portfolio. Remember that some worksheets require printing out two pages.
Submitting the portfolio: Be sure that all the work in the portfolio is your own--take no short cuts by plagiarizing someone else's work. Organize all 10 quizzes and 5 simulations in a folder, which should be appropriately and neatly labeled. Either place them in the folder pockets or in a flat three-hole binder. I prefer you not use a bulky three-ring binder or the type with the clear plastic cover and snap-on binding. The Portfolio is due on April 25.
