Who are the program faculty?

  • Program director and resident music professor Mark Hijleh holds an MA in world music studies from the University of Sheffield (UK) and a DMA in music composition from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University. He has written and spoken widely on topics at the intersection of world music, music theory and Christianity, as has guest professor and active global music performer Scott Robinson (Ph.D, University of Minnesota). Ethnomusicologist Frank Fortunato (global music coordinator for Operation Mobilization’s HeartSounds International) brings more than 35 years of experience in world music and missions. Additional guest music faculty include other scholars, teachers and practitioners of wide national and international experience.

  • Resident faculty in theology and intercultural studies include Marcus Dean (M.Div, Th.M, Asbury Seminary; Ph.D, Trinity Seminary), Ndunge Kiiti (MA, Wheaton College; Ph.D, Cornell University), Kristina LaCelle-Peterson (M.Div, Gordon-Conwell Seminary; M.Phil, Ph.D, Drew University), and Paul Shea (M.Div, D.Miss, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School), as well as other Houghton professors and guest scholars of wide national and international experience.
