James Bartlett ("An Advocate of Pre-Futurist Art")is a native of St. Louis, Missouri. His degrees are in organ and choral performance, U. of Mo.-Kansas City (1979); M.Mus.(composition) Webster University (1985); with doctoral study in theory / composition at the U. of Hartford (1992). He holds the Associate certificate of the American Guild of Organists. He has served as Director of Music and Organist for churches in the Midwest, Connecticut, and Bluefield,WV for 20+ years. Currently Adjunct Instructor in music at Concord University, Jim is also Curator of the 48-bell Carillon on campus in Athens,WV. His wife Lynne is a piano teacher and librarian, their family is of 3 children,2 dogs,1 cat.

Karen Bates-Smith turned left in the midst of life and earned her Bachelor of Music degree in composition from Marylhurst University, near Portland, OR. She enjoys writing music for string duets and trios, piano, choir, and orchestra. Current projects include a wedding collection for string trio, and piano preludes in all 24 keys. Her music will be carried by Opus East Sheet Music in Portland, OR and Spokane, WA, as well as online (www.opussheetmusic.com). Her unpublished Mass is sung seasonally at her local parish. After spending twenty years as a church musician, performing and recording artist, private piano teacher, and recording studio owner/engineer, Mikel Bell returned to school to pursue a degree in Music Education. He is now in his senior year at Boise State University where he studies composition with Prof. J. Wallis Bratt, and plays percussion in the BSU Symphonic Winds under the direction of Prof. Marcellus Brown. Mikel will graduate in May, 2007 with a Bachelor of Music in Composition and a Basque Studies Minor.

He has received the Griff and Mary Bratt Music Composition Scholarship for three consecutive years, and commissions from the Marsing (Idaho) High School Band and Choir. His Piano Sonata No. 1 - "Nostalgia for the Children" has been performed by Dr. James Cook, music department chair at BSU, and by Magdalena Zimmerman, (B.M. Performance, Boise State, 2006). His arrangement of the Star Spangled Banner for Brass Ensemble was featured at the 2006 Boise State University commencement ceremonies, and was given special recognition by university president Robert Kustra. His original score is featured on a short film entitled Proserpine, produced by Born Mad Films. One of his compositions for treble choir, While the Lavenders Were Blooming, written for the Marsing High School Choir, has recently been published by Lighthouse Music Publications in Hensall, ON, Canada. He is also a member of the National Association of Composers/USA (NACUSA) and the American Composers Forum.

Seth Colaner (b.1982), an Ohio native, is currently completing a Master of Music degree in Composition at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  He has studied composition with Donald Busarow and Steven Winteregg at Wittenberg University (Summa Cum Laude) and currently studies with Mark Engebretson. Seth’s music includes works for voice, mixed ensembles, solo instruments, brass quintet, string quartet, electronic media, incidental music for the stage, orchestra, and opera. Current projects include a reworking of Adolphe Adam’s “Giselle” with dancer Duane Cyrus as well as commissions for vocal works, dance, and for tuba.

Andrew Dionne, the first recipient of the CFAMC scholarship, completed his doctorate in music composition from Indiana University during the Spring of 2002. Recently, he graduated from Covenant Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree. Since May of 2004, Andrew has served Christ's Body as the Assistant Pastor of Christ the Word PCA (www.christtheword.com) in Toledo, OH. He is married to Sarah, who has a lovely light lyric soprano voice. They have a one-year old daughter named Anna and are expecting another child in March of 2005.

Frank Felice began his musical studies in Hamilton, Montana, playing piano, guitar and double bass. Interest in composition began through participation with a number of rock bands, one of which, Graffiti, toured the western United States and the Far East in 1986-1987. Frank attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, the University of Colorado, and Butler University, studying with Michael Schelle, Daniel Breedon, Luiz Gonzalez, and James Day. Most recently he has studied with Dominick Argento and Judith Lang Zaimont at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, where he completed a Ph.D in 1997.

Recently appointed composer in residence with the Symphony of Southeast Texas, he served as composer in residence for Eastern Wyoming College, and as composer in residence for the Wyoming Council on the Arts from 1988-1990. During his tenure there he taught in the public schools, as well as lecturing and writing for many of the ensembles in residence. A composer of many styles and genre, he has been performed extensively in the U.S. as well as the United Kingdom. Commissions include funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, Wyoming State Arts Board, Indianapolis Youth Symphony, Kappa Kappa Psi/Tau Beta Sigma and the Minneapolis Vocal Consort as well as many private commissions. Frank is a member of the University of Minnesota Composer's Alliance, the American Composers Forum, and the American Music Center. In addition to musical interests, Frank pursues his creative muse through painting, poetry, cooking, paleontolgy, theology, philosophy and basketball. He currently teaches music theory and composition at Butler University, and has also served on the faculty of Beaumont University.

Joel Harding is currently studying composition at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music, under John Maxwell Geddes, with trumpet as his second study. He previously studied at the Junior School of the Royal Northern College of Music, under Andrew Keeling. His main influences other than contemporary music generally, are 13th-17th c. dance/folk music, world music, and early 20th c. English composers. His hobbies include reading military history, historical novels, and science fiction, and also playing the hurdy-gurdy and cornett. Mark Hijleh holds a doctoral degree in composition from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, a master's degree in conducting and composition from the Ithaca College School of Music, and a bachelor's degree in composition from William Jewell College. His teachers included such noted artists as Karel Husa, Morris Moshe Cotel, Barney Childs, James Mobberly, and Thomas Benjamin. Dr. Hijleh has received composition awards from NATS, Kappa Gamma Psi, T.U.B.A., Loyola College of Maryland, and ASCAP. His works have been performed professionally by the Rochester and Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestras, the Janus Orchestra, the Liberty Symphony Orchestra, the Bach Ensemble of Baltimore, at Washington's Kennedy Center, ResMusicAmerica in Baltimore, and Oxford University, and by major ensembles of the Peabody Conservatory, Ithaca College, Houghton College, and William Jewell College.

Mary King is Assistant Professor of Music at California Baptist University in Riverside, CA. Currently a DM candidate in Composition at Northwestern University, she also holds degrees from Bowling Green State University (MM) and Oklahoma Baptist University (BM). King's compositions have been performed by the Oklahoma City Symphony, The Cleveland Chamber Symphony, flutists Claire Chase and Patricia Spencer, and the Bohica, Lithium, and Ancia saxophone quartets. She has also participated in the June in Buffalo new music festival and the Centre de Création Musicale Iannis Xenakis (UPIC/CCMIX) summer program in Paris, and has received numerous awards for her compositions including the International Alliance for Women in Music's Ellen Zwilich Award. Tim M. Kucij is an engineer, minister and musician. He earned his BA in Music (specializing in piano and composition) from the California State Polytechnic University (Cal Poly) at Pomona in 1978. In addition, Tim studied through the Sherwood Music Conservatory of Chicago and under numerous distinguished organ, piano, conducting and composition teachers and artists in Los Angeles and Minneapolis. He also holds a MA degree in Biblical Studies. Tim has over 25 years experience in quality systems engineering and management. He is also active in the preaching, teaching and music ministries at his local church. Tim is a nationally recognized composer and pianist having composed scores of piano solos in various styles. He has concertized extensively and has released two CDs (A Place Somewhere and LifeSongs; read reviews here) of his music to date. His music (score books and recordings) is housed in many of the nation's libraries. Tim holds membership in The American Society for Quality, The American Composer's Forum, Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), The American Symphony Orchestra League and The Creation Research Society. In 1989 he was named Distinguished Alumnus by Cal Poly Pomona. He is listed in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World.

FRANK LA ROCCA (b. 1951, Newark, New Jersey) earned his B.A. in Music from Yale University, and the M.A. and Ph.D in composition from the University of California at Berkeley. Mr. LaRocca has been a leading figure in the San Francisco Bay Area new music scene as a founding member and Artistic Director of COMPOSERS, INC. as well as in his work as a composer and teacher. Since my 1998 choral work "Exaudi," all my music has been settings of sacred texts or has been focussed on the contemplation of God's grace and mercy. Like most composers, I have often thought about the significance (if any) of my work. Though all too often this question is still framed in terms of my own status as a composer in the world at large, I pray that I can more consistently keep the focus on Him from whom all creation and creativity flows.

David Messer has been a church musician for 46 years, serving variously as organist, choral director and minister of music.  His initial training was at the Birmingham-Southern Conservatory of Music and currently he is pursuing a master's degree in composition at the Julliard School of Music. Dr. Mumford (D.M.A., University of Southern California) is an ASCAP composer with music published by 6 different companies. Two of his original orchestral themes play daily on Christian radio stations in many cities nationwide. Other varied credits include a prize in the Culver Chamber Series (Los Angeles), symphonic performances by orchestras in the western United States, and a song being included on a Billboard number 1 album. Virginia Pike holds a B.S. from Duke University in Math and Music, and an M.F.A. from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts in Musical Theater Writing, where she wrote the music to a full-length musical, a one-act, and many songs.  Her goal is to be a prolific composer of musical theater and opera.  She came to faith in 1995 and ever since has been praying about how to use her gift of composing to the glory of God.  Ms. Pike has been working as the Director of Music at St. George's Episcopal Church in New York City for two and a half years, where she has written a number of choral works, solos and arrangements for the church.

David Rackley was born and raised in Modesto, California, and received his bachelor of music and master of arts degrees in theory and composition from San Francisco State University, with post graduate work at the University of Southern Mississippi. He studied composition with Luigi Zaninnelli, Roger Nixon, Peter Sacco, Carl Sitton, and Pulitzer Prize winning composer Wayne Peterson. Upon completion of his studies, Rackley entered the United States Air Force Bands and Music Program. During his Air Force career, he conducted numerous bands in various worldwide locations, including the United States Air Force Band, Europe, where he was also a frequent guest conductor of the Southwest Radio Orchestra in Kaiserslautern. A published and award-winning composer, Rackley has scored video, commercials, and film productions for the Library of Congress, the A&E Network, The Learning Channel, CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, and the Discovery Channel. His production music credits include "Days of Our Lives," "America’s Most Wanted," "Cheers," "Nurses," "Picket Fences," "L.A. Law," "All My Children," "General Hospital," "Home Improvement," "Quantum Leap," and "Seinfeld." He has received six Telly Awards, three Omni Awards, a CINE Golden Eagle Award, the Gold Apple Award from the National Education Media Network, a Gold CINDY from the International Association of Audiovisual Communicators, and two Bronze Awards from the WorldFest International Film and Video Competition. His composition, "Overture Calafia" was commissioned for the inaugural dedication concert of the Cal Poly Performing Arts Center. His latest work, "Third Stream Bridge" for Jazz Piano and Wind Orchestra, was recently performed in the Sydney Opera House by the Cal Poly Wind Orchestra. He is Composer-in-Residence for Interact Theatre, Cuesta College, San Luis Obispo. Rackley is currently on the music faculty at Cuesta College.

Greg Scheer received his BA in composition from the University of Rhode Island and his MA in composition and theory from the University of Pittsburgh. His music has been performed at Rhode Island Composer Festivals, the International Horn Society (University of New Hampshire), University of Akron New Music Group concerts, Krotach 7 (Salzburg, Austria), Ostertreff (Aachen, Germany), by the Duquesne University Concert Choir (PA), the Daedalus String Quartet (OH) Hermsdorfer Kirche (Hermsdorf, Germany); the University of Pittsburgh's Heinz Chapel Choir, Men's Glee Club, Women's Choral Ensemble, "Music on the Edge" series, and Symphony Orchestra; and by the Wildwood Presbyterian Church Choir, where he was director of music until the fall of 2000. Scheer currently serves as Director of Celebrative Arts and music faculty member at Northwestern College in Iowa. He recently completed a commission for the Chagall String Quartet entitled "6" which will be released on CD along with his "Jig." His publishing company, "Greg Scheer Music," specializes in quality music that is accessible to amateur church choirs. Jason Scheufler is currently a MM in Composition candidate and MFA in Sound Design candidate at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He has studied composition with James Mobberley, Zhou Long and Paul Rudy. I received a BM in Education at Friends University, Wichita KS (2001), where he began studying composition with Wichita State University graduate Daniel Racer in the last year of his undergraduate degree. Since he began composing in 2000, his humorous arrangement of Jingle Bells, “Samba de los Jingle Bells,” won the choral arranging category of the Mu Phi Epsilon Annual Scholarship Competition, and four of his works have received premieres at both Friends and UMKC.

David Bennett Thomas (b. 1969) received degrees from West Chester University, and The Peabody Conservatory, and currently teaches at The University of the Arts, in Philadelphia.  His private teachers include Lukas Foss, Ron Thomas, Jacques Voois, Morris Cotel, and Fred Hersch.  He has served as composer-in-residence at The Adirondack Festival of American Music, and has had performances at The Festival of the Hamptons, The Bethlehem Guitar Festival, The New York Flute Club and as part of concert series by groups such as The Gregg Smith Singers, The New Carillon Ensemble, The Orchestral Society of Philadelphia, The Satori Chamber Group, Melomanie, Rarescale, pianists Matthew Bengtson, Samuel Hsu, tenor Arthur Krieck, sopranos Mary Elizabeth Poore and Rosalind Rees, cellists Nancy Baun and Jeffrey Solow, saxophonist Marshall Taylor, oboist Lloyd Shorter, and many others.  Thomas has received grants from The American Composers Forum, The University of the Arts, and The Peabody Conservatory.  His pieces have been published by Shawnee Press and Tetractys Productions.  Thomas' music is being released on Albany Records and Arizona University Recordings in 2005.  He won the Philadelphia Young Composers competition, and the Morawetz Award in Composition.  In addition to composing concert music, Thomas is also very active as a jazz pianist in Philadelphia.

William Vollinger has had numerous works performed by the Greg Smith Singers and other New York-based choral groups. The Long Island Chamber Ensemble's performance of his More than Conquerors (recorded on Grenadilla Records) was described by N.Y. Times music critic Howard Klein as "a thought-provoking and moving new vocal work...in the best tradition of inspirational music." His music is published by Heritage Music Press, Lawson-Gould, and others. A graduate of the Manhatten School of Music, William is Director of Vocal Music at the Pocantico Hills School in Westchester NY.

A native of Chicago, Donald M. Wilson studied composition with Karel Husa and Robert Palmer at Cornell University and with Gunther Schuller at the Berkshire Music Center (Tanglewood). In 1965 Wilson became the first music director of the educational FM station in Philadelphia now known as WHYY-FM. Now a professor emeritus at Bowling Green State University, Wilson joined the BGSU music faculty in 1967, taught music theory, analysis and composition for 31 years and chaired the Music Composition/History Department for two four-year terms (1973-77; 1994-98). From 1983 to 1995 Wilson produced over 80 one-hour programs in the annual "New Music Festival" radio series for national distribution. Since 1967 Wilson has been a member of the American Composers Alliance and since 1995 a member of the Christian Fellowship of Art Music Composers. In 1998 he was elected to the latter organization's Board of Directors.
