Testimonials

My reviews at Zentendo are featured in the databases for Metacritic and Game Rankings as professional reviews.

My review of LostWinds was also referenced on Gamasutra alongside reviews from IGN and Eurogamer in an article regarding critical reception of the game.

Here's what some folks have had to say about me and my work:

"You're one of the biggest team players we've got. Your reviews are great and I don't think I've had any problems with finding bias - you're very good at avoiding it."
~ Stephen Weber, Community Administrator of Zentendo and Podcast Director of Zelda Reorchestrated

"Eddy is a hard worker who puts the work first, but who cares about the people behind the scenes. As a writer he's grown a lot since I have known him. He still has a lot of room to grow, but what makes him different is that he is open to hearing where he needs to grow and tries to accommodate those areas. Makes working with him so much easier when we both can critique each other while being honest."
~ Chris DeWitt, News Editor of Zentendo

"His reviews are very professional and very detailed. Great guy who also helps out members of the site to critique their reviews as well. Definitely listen to this man before you buy any Nintendo game."
~ Erik Yao, Co-Founder and CVO of MyGameMug

"This guy writes awesome game reviews! If you ever want to buy a game...make sure you check out his review first!"
~ Raymond Lau, Co-Founder and CEO of MyGameMug

"That was honestly the best review I have read on this site, and one of the best reviews I've read in general."
~ Kenny Moran, Games Director of MyGameMug [In reference to my review of Mega Man 9 when posted on his site]

About Me

I'm Eddy Fettig, also known across the internet as "D3stiny_Sm4sher." A fellow child of the digital revolution, I'm a Senior at Houghton College in New York state majoring in Communication with a concentration in Digital Media where my advisor and media guru Dave Huth has been a great source of knowledge, encouragement, and critique. I also have a minor in Writing, a skill I practice regularly in my written reviews.

I am the Reviews Editor at Zentendo where I have voluntarily done work since July of 2007. Before that, I wrote reviews and news for TheHylia from January 2007 to July of the same year. My ultimate goal is to some day work for 1Up.

My experience with digital media consists of courses in blogging, video production, animation, digital imaging, and web design. I have experience using Photoshop, After Effects, Final Cut, Audacity, Soundtrack Pro, and Dreamweaver. Many of my projects (as you will see) tend to focus on my passion for video games as a medium. I hope my well-rounded experience in basic production of many types of digital media as well as my time spent writing and editing reviews will help me break into this industry after college. You can take a look at these varied projects by clicking on the links above and digging in.

Gaming History

I feel that it's important to have a feel of any gamer's history with the medium because, as I said before, we all have our influences. These are some of the games which have had a great influence on me. Very Nintendo-centric, to be sure, but make no mistake: I love all consoles and many types of games, Nintendo just tends to be the company that melds more with my tastes. I currently own a Wii, a DS, and a PS2, and have played a wide variety of games from varying systems, dating back to the Atari.

My gaming experience goes back to when I was five years old and played the NES for the time -- Mega Man 3, to be precise -- and I have been hooked ever since, my purposes, tastes, and desires evolving as I have grown. My tastes vary, as I am open minded to many styles and genres of games, but I have consistently been a Nintendo fan since I was a child, my most favorite franchises includng Super Smash Bros., the Mario RPG's, Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Mario Kart, and more. Among my favorites within those franchises are Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Majora's Mask, Super Metroid, and Mario Kart Wii.

For more of a feel of my gaming tastes, some of my most favorite individual titles (aside from the aforementioned franchises) include:

  • Super Mario Galaxy
  • Kingdom Hearts I and II
  • Odin Sphere
  • Shadow of the Colossus
  • Yoshi's Island
  • God of War I and II
  • Chrono Cross
  • Resident Evil 4
  • Final Fantasy XII
  • Elite Beat Agents
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
  • Super Mario World
  • Mega Man 2, 3, and 9
  • Tetris (DS, specifically)
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and 3
  • Geometry Wars: Galaxies
  • BioShock
  • Cave Story
  • Aquaria
  • Rez
